Easy Recipe Changes to Turn Up the Health Quotient

Almond Milk

Honey!

You can replace refined sugar with honey in almost any recipe. Honey runs sweeter so I have found 2/3 cup per 1 cup of refined sugar does the trick. The lighter the honey, the less honey flavor is imparted in the recipe so unless you want the honey to stand out, lighter is better

Almond (or other nut) Milk

Almond milk can sub for milk or cream in most recipes. This applies to coconut milk (go for no guar gum) and cashew milk as well. Coconut milk works best when you are trying to replace a higher fat dairy and cashew milk is super creamy. I recently found that almond milk even worked to remake a family favorite bolognese. Just make sure to buy the real thing...nuts, water, and maybe some sea salt.
